Memes are fun

I'm growing more and more in love with the Genki textbooks day by day. Today I came to the conclusion that one of the practice exercises is in fact based around a love triangle involving Yamada, Smith, and Youko. I also love how absurd it can be and how aware it is of its own absurdity. One of our exercises came with this explanation: "You have been involved in a car accident and have lost all your memory. (For some reason you can speak Japanese.) You are at the hospital and your doctor will ask you the questions below. Answer them using ~か(どうか)わかりません." I'm also happy about learning this grammar. I've been wondering how to say things like these in Japanese for ages!

Today I went to the mail center and happened to meet my academic advisor. I didn't know that he was around, so that was sort of a pleasant surprise. He ended up telling me a little bit about an article he wrote this summer and ended up using the term "frienemies" to describe two Japanese poets. I was amused.

From [livejournal.com profile] write_way_42:

1.) Favorite Arashi song/video? (Sorry if you've been asked this before, don't remember.)
Definitely "Truth". I love the song and the video is so pretty and shows all of them dancing so much. I really love all of their outfits for this video too. Nino's is especially cool. Those pants and that jacket. <3 And I love the scarf Aiba's wearing. And their hair looks so cool... Okay, I'll stop now.

2.) If you could only take one language, which would you choose, Latin or Japanese?
I'd have to pick Japanese, since I hope to dedicate my life to it... if I can find decent money in it, that is. :/

3.) What color would you paint the walls in Scott's Supernatural Japan classroom?
<3 How nostalgic. I even saw Scott today, too. Maybe we're psychically linked! Probably not. Man, what did I even say? I might have said blue, just because I like blue so much. I think one of us said mauve, so I'll go with that for today.

4.) Of all the manga in your collection, which is your favorite?
That's... hard. You know there's a lot in there. Uhhh, I think I'll go with Ōoku. Even though the English version contains a major questionable translation decision, I'm still happy about finally owning something by Yoshinaga Fumi. She's probably my favorite manga creator. Maybe if I can, I'll buy the Japanese volumes sometime.

5.) I'm thinking of a number between one and ten. What number it?
42. I'm probably wrong though. Time to utterly crush any hope that we're psychically connected.

And she gave me a color, how nice. Now I say ten things I like which are that color. Yellow.
1. Ninomiya Kazunari. All of the members of Arashi have designated colors, and Nino's is yellow.
2. Lemons. I love sour foods.
3. Smilies.
4. Caution Tape.
5. Yellow Submarine.
6. Persona 4.
7. Bananas. More for their overall silliness than for eating them.
8. Guy/Flynn's hair. From Tales of Abyss/Vesperia, respectively.
9. The giant crescent moon on Date Masamune's helmet in Sengoku Basara.
10. The yellow m&m character in the m&m advertisments.

And now a meme I took from [livejournal.com profile] rise_kujikawa:
Comment with a fandom and I'll make a new entry afterwards saying 2 facts about my headcannon of each mentioned fandom.

Edit: And asking for more than one is okay, since I'm not expecting a ton of people requesting.

I actually don't remember the names, even though he said them. I didn't recognize them either, since I don't know much about Japanese literature.

Life on Mars. Is that really okay? I haven't watched the whole thing yet... I can think of things for halfway through, I guess. The post for it all will probably go up in a few days, giving time for people to (hopefully) give me more suggestions. And I'm about to edit it to make it clear that more than one suggestion is okay.

Scott used the term "frenemies" to describe the relationship two Japanese poets? That is absolutely adorable. I love how he is my advisor now.

And head-cannon did you say? How about Bloody Monday, P4, and Torchwood?
