Flynn is so TOTAlly not Guy
Oct. 5th, 2008 12:07 amI swear. He's a totally different character who does not look exactly like Guy at all.
...
Except Flynn IS Guy. Silly Namco.
Anyway, there's plenty of stuff I could post about, but it's late and I have homework, blah blah blah. There's one thing, however, I do want to post before I forget to bother mentioning it to someone other than my brother: (Rest of the post is slightly spoilery for Tales of Vesperia through right before going to Tarqaron)
Just today, I went through a part of the game where Flynn is in the party for one battle (I wanted to keep him, but alas!), and at the end of the battle, I could not help but notice Flynn's battle picture on the victory screen...
It
was
Guy's
victory
expression!
Flynn = Guy. Namco cannot deny this fact.
But Guy was a good character, so there's no real need for them to deny that they remade a character with a different backstory and personality. The personality and backstory is more of what makes the character anyway, so it's not a big deal that they reused a nice look on a new character. I don't mind it, but I imagine there are those who do. But I guess I'm trying to say that they made it unnecessarily obvious.
Or maybe they were trying to remind us all of Abyss and the cloning stuff by making Flynn a replica of Guy! If this is the case, I must applaud Namco. Brilliant!
Back to Flynn briefly being in the party. I feel like I got to see Flynn and Yuri act fairly naturally as friends for once. If I were ever to write a fanfic involving the two, I'd want to keep that scene in mind. In other Yuri/Flynn or Flynn/Yuri moments (is there anyone who knows how to order these two?) the scene after the Yuri vs Flynn battle a little bit after the time when he's in your party for only one battle (I wished that I could have brought Flynn back to the rest of the party and asked, "Can I keep him?") was adorable. Remembering childhood promises, holding swords up and hitting them against each other as if that is the seal of their promises. Beautiful.
Anyway, I ended up making this longer than I intended, but all those shows of friendship between Flynn and Yuri made me happy.
And I just realized that I don't have ToV icons yet. Maybe I should find some. I'm at my icon limit, but there are icons I don't use often which I wouldn't mind cutting out.
