xanithofdragonsI'm only on the 5/1 in P4 right now, so I don't think there'll be any major spoilers here, but probably some minor ones...
Obviously, I've been playing Persona 4 a bit this week,maybe more than I should, considering that I still have one more week of school before my winter break. Overall, I'd have to say that it's pretty amazing so far, and does not fall short of my expectations. The music is beautiful, and that's without me listening to the partial soundtrack that came with the game. I pre-ordered, so I got the artbook (luckily, it seems, since some people are saying that GameStop didn't give them theirs). I liked the spoiler warning from Teddie on the first page, although I mostly ignored it and looked through it anyway since I was already spoiled for some of the character spoilers. I also showed the artbook to a few of my friends at school.
The characters seem pretty good so far, although Yosuke should stop being so mean to Teddie, Yukiko needs to show more personality so I can figure out whether or not to like her, and Teddie needs to stop crushing on Yukiko. Teddie is cute (I've even decided that he's the reincarnation of Shuji Ikutsuki with all his bad bear puns), but he might become annoying if he keeps up the attempted flirting with Yukiko for too long. I'll be able to stand him if he flirts with all the girls, but if it's just Yukiko... I don't dislike Yukiko, but when too many guys focus on one girl in games, anime, or manga, it annoys me. Seriously, these are fantasy worlds where almost all the girls are pretty; don't make all the guys focus on just one of the gorgeous ladies! And also, only one of them is actually going to be able to get the girl, so why set so many up for misery? T_T
Moving on, Chie's voice actor was kinda annoying at first, but I think I'm getting used to it. The rest of the voice acting is good, and I like the small bits of voice acting in the social links now, although I don't like the voice for the sun social link all that much. To me, that voice just doesn't fit with the way she looks.
The graphics aren't disappointing. I enjoy watching the main character's jacket blow behind him, lol. My brother is rather impressed by the 45 degree angles in the dungeons, although I'm not sure why. ^_^
The whole weather thing is nice. Having recently played Tales of Vesperia and now Persona 4 makes me wonder if changing weather is some sort of trend... Some of the new stuff with social links is nice. I'm glad that we can choose to not date a girl and still max her social link now. I have yet to find a girl I would for sure want to have the main character date, and I'm not sure I will.
The battles are much harder. Being able to get far in the game requires plenty of grinding, but luckily for me, I don't mind grinding much when I'm working towards a specific goal. I saved Yukiko well before the fog came and had plenty of free time to work on social links.
I think I've realized now why people seem to slash Yosuke so much. His expressions are so very... provocative. And then he just winks too much for his own good, when talking to guys, and saying things that will be construed as hitting on the guys he's talking to when a wink is added. It ends up seeming like Yosuke is hitting on all the guys. As far as other suggestive things go... "I loooooove them balls"... seriously, whoever's responsible, whether it also sounded so suggestive in the Japanese or whether the localization team is entirely to blame, I loled so hard! Haha, I like soccer better, but I picked basketball for the sports team social link because Kou is cuter. This is just a video game, so that is an entirely valid reason. But yeah, anyway, after the main character, Kou, and Daisuke all stay at school late polishing balls... yeah, seriously. (And by balls they totally meant BASKETballs, no really.) Oh, but on that incident, giving the player the options: "Help out" or "Be an ass and leave", what jerk's gonna pick "Be an ass an leave". That's so silly. ^_^
The strength social link is my highest one so far, at level 3, followed by fool and sun, both level 2. Then magician and chariot still just level 1. I should probably hang out with Yosuke sometime soon, although I did share lunch with him one day, and he liked it. I bet he's all lonely without me. And yeah, I might hang out with Chie eventually. I probably should, since it's to my advantage to level up my party's social links. ^^;
The evening after Yosuke and and the main character got arrested, when Dojima was having a discussion with the main character and then Nanako asks them if they're fighting and then Dojima's all like, no we aren't fighting, the main character officially became the mom of the family, in my mind. Then, just recently, when Dojima's all like, Nanako still can't really cook on her own, and I'm a bad chef, but that's what this guy is for! and slaps the main character on the shoulder. The main character is soo totally the mom in the family, lololwhut.
Anyways, going off to play more tonight. I wanted to get some of my thoughts down here before I had so many that I wouldn't be able to get very many of them down. (Although this is still a lengthy post.)
