My copy of LOVE came in the mail yesterday. \(^_^)/ Just looking at the box for it and the booklet, I thought a little that the le would have been worth it even without the bonus dvd (but I still want the bonus dvd, yes, please keep doing that).

First things first, Ai wo Utaou. It's kind of similar to Cosmos from Popcorn, only even more epic. On my first listen of a CD when I've bought the physical copy, I usually listen while reading along in the lyrics booklet. And reading through the lyrics while listening to Ai wo Utaou, I actually cried. The lyrics that did me in were 「どんな大きな声で 愛を呼んだって 悲しみは終わらない」(rough translation: no matter how loud of a voice you shout love in, sadness won't end). And then, in the rap lyrics 「悲しみなんて底がない だからこそ夢と刻む帆を張り 空に向け続く航海」(rough translation: there's no bottom to sadness. That's why we spread our dreams and carving sails and continue to sail facing the sky). I could listen to this song over and over again, it's so beautiful. This song is my overall favorite on this album. The thought, that, even while knowing you can't fix everything, you still keep trying and keep going for it, makes this song even more touching.

Listening to Sayonara no Ato de, I thought about how hen the album title was released, I saw some fans saying that it was too juvenile of a topic or something now that all the Arashi members're all in their 30's, but listening to the album, it's really about the kinds of love that I think only an older group can pull off singing about. Sayonara no Ato de, just paying attention to the music, it feels a little hard to tell whether it's supposed to be a little on the happy side or not, although it sounds clearly like a love song, but the lyrics are pretty straight-forwardly sad, so it feels like a very complex song.

CONFUSION has a fun beat that also feels a little mature somehow? The line about a "love train" always amuses me a bit, though. A lot of the songs on this album seem to be referencing the same musical style or era, but I don't know enough about music to quite catch which one it is. >_< But it gives a lot of the songs a kind of laid-back, mature feeling. Ohno's solo, Hit the floor, has this feel for me too. I felt like all the solos this album showed off each member's strengths well.

For Paradox, I thought this while watching the Music Station performance, but it's like they decided that now they're all in their 30's, it's time to bring out any and all sexy they may have been holding back on. xD Paradox has the sexiest rap I've heard in an Arashi song yet (and it has competition!) I liked that sugar and salt was a bit of a slower feeling song while still feeling really fitting for Sho. Back to the nice laid-back feeling!

20825 Nichime no Kyoku... I'm never totally sure how to react for Nino's solos. He's had so many really slow generic ballad style solos recently, I couldn't get into any of them. This still has a slower feel, although different from the laid-back feel of other songs on the album, but there's enough going on in the music that I feel like I can get into it. ^^; My favorite Nino solos are Gimmick Game and Niji, so that means that the Nino solos I like best all came out before I was even an Arashi fan. I guess I'm always not sure how to feel about being a Nino fan and then not even being able to get that excited about his solo songs since they're not usually the types of songs I like. >_<

When I'm listening to Rock Tonight I just want to jump up and down and sing along. This might be my second or third favorite song on the album. While I was listening to this song, I thought about something I read in a Johnnys-related post once, about how if you're a Johnnys fan long enough and listen to the songs of enough groups, you start to hear how they all have similarities to each other. xD Because this song made me think of Eito songs and TOKIO songs, and also of Sakura Sake. It's a song with a rockish-feel that's still very pop and dance and idol-y.

Yozora e no Tegami is one kind of ballad that builds in way I really like and really works for me. Dance in the dark is such a Jun solo. xD It's a little show tune-y, a little funky. I always look forward to what kind of solo Jun will do each album, because I always know it'll be a little silly but a lot fun. And then it's a second pleasure to look forward to what he'll do for the live. xD And then Starlight kiss continues in a similar vein musically, only a little less show tune-y and a little more disco-y. ^^ And then more disco with FUNKY. xD Although I do love some disco influence in my Jpop.

And to finish it, Tears is closer to the kind of ballad I can't really get into easily. But one kind of disappointing track out of sixteen? That's pretty good. And Tears is pretty good as far as generic ballads go. The kind of song I'd skip on shuffle but don't mind sitting down and listening to every once in a while. And it's also the type of ballad that seems to be more or less a requirement for Jpop groups to have at least every once in a while. Ah, it's times like these when I think about how my musical tastes seem pretty different from other Johnnys fans when I see them getting all excited about ballads that I think are boring and generic... (Not this song specifically, but in general.)

A problem I've been having recently with listening to Jpop is that the lyrics become a huge part of my experience of the songs, and then that becomes hard to express to friends and family who don't know Japanese.
